Live at Sellersville Theater Review

James Day & the Fish’s LIVE at Sellersville Theater was recorded on a raucous Fat Tuesday evening with revelers in attendance. Mark Shewchuk keeps the band solid and in the 2 nd line groove, Ron Baldwin’s pulsating accordion swells and Hammering Professor styled piano riffs

keep the dance going. Bill Spink has got those funky rhythms with James Day’s

Harmonicas, fiddles and Frottoir rhythms providing sonic ornamentation. One can tell

James is a New Orleans native by his vocals and singing various Louisiana styles. The

amazing horn section features William Butryn, honking baritone sax weaving in and out of Alan Yandziak animated playing and big tone! Jimmy Parker bellows out the bottom with fat tuba and sliding trombone, love those Tuba solos! The Boys switch over to a 2nd line and get the audience in a long snaking Congo line; the recording even captures that acoustic ramble live! This is a great compilation CD to play every Carnival season, just like one would return to classic Christmas carols during the holidays! A great live record filled with Carnival classics-FIVE STARS *****

What people are saying...

 MUSIC REVUE

James Day has assembled a great cast of players and crafted some very cool and satisfying tunes and arrangements cutting a wide path through different roots styles. An effective vocal stylist and tough harmonica player, he's put together a rollicking piece of work that should fit nicely into your current list of favorites.

LA HORA DEL BLUES

Man! James Day is a crazy enjoyable artist and an excellent story-teller. He plays blues, jump, rumba, boogie-woogie and rhythm and blues from the deepest part of his heart. His music is a real journey that drives us to forties and fifties to savor legendary Memphis, Chicago, Texas or New Orleans music. Good rhythm, good patters, good tempo, good beat.... A solid cd!! Mr. Day, keep on blowin' your harp!!
